accessible beach

The Strandjutter (Beachcomber) is a wheelchair that allows a person with reduced mobility to be pushed through the soft sand to the water line.

During the opening hours of the rescue service, the Strandjutter will be lent out for FREE upon presentation of an identity card at the Albertstrand first aid post at Zwaluwenlaan and the first first aid post at Lichttorenplein. You can consult the opening hours here.

During July/August, a Strandjutter is also available for FREE from the sports beach in Heist.

Reservation is recommended; simply call  G 0474 94 68 47 (Zwaluwenlaan) or G 0474 94 35 26 (Lichttorenplein)

Wooden gangways have also been laid out on the various beaches for disabled people with a wheelchair or families with a pram.
These passerelles can be found at the following locations:

Heist (near Heldenplein)
Duinbergen (near Lentelaan)
Albertstrand (near Zwaluwenlaan)
Knokke (near Zwaluwenlaan and Lichttorenplein)

This initiative, called ZON, ZEE… ZORGELOOS in Dutch, makes areas of the beach accessible to everyone.
