Eva - Eugène Dodeigne

8300 Knokke-Heist

About the artwork

The human figure, referring to the primal mother, was carved by the artist from ancient Burgundian stone. This technique makes for a raw quality that exudes an incredible expressive power. The work was placed in front of the Casino in 1974 as a memento to Gustave Nellens, Casino owner and great ambassador for Knokke.

About the artist

The sculptor was trained by his father, a French stone sculptor himself. Having settled in France, he studied in Tourcoing and in Paris. He finds inspiration in the human figure, sculpted from the stone in a seemingly rough manner, thereby exuding monumentality and strength, yet with a certain vulnerability.
