About the artwork

This work was conceived by the artist on his sickbed in Mexico. From his bedroom window, he could see date trees, the fruits of which appear in a hallucinatory way like carnal growths. The inspiration translated into an imaginative image that reflects the ambiguity of the human body.

About the artist

Johan Creten is considered a forerunner in the revival of ceramics in contemporary art. In addition, the artist also works in bronze to create colourful figurative, anthropomorphic and abstract sculptures. The sculptures Creten creates are permeated with double meanings and symbolic references.
