Safety Post - Compagnie-O and John Körmeling

Strand t.h.v. Lichttorenplein

8300 Knokke

The design for the new infrastructure is by Ghent-based architecture firm Compagnie-O in collaboration with Dutch architect and visual artist John Körmeling.

The main rescue station radiates a certain lightness and airiness through its summery yellow colour and design. The context (wind, salt, sun and sand) ensures that specific sustainable materials were chosen. The supporting structure consists of a steel skeleton of columns and beams finished with steel and cement-bonded sheeting. Polyurea, a paint that is applied to steel substrates using a hot-spray technique, was chosen for the finish. This technique is often used for varnishing ships.
