About the artwork

Valérie Mannaerts' new image clearly draws inspiration from the work of Pablo Picasso and David Hockney. Here, the artist is responding to the specific environment of the Casino, namely its 1930s Art Deco design language. Like a sculpted painting, the sculpture yields a theatrical quality that allows it to claim its place within this ensemble of sculptures.

About the artist

In her work, Valérie Mannaerts examines the physiological qualities of things, questioning the relationship between organic and inorganic forms, the presence and autonomy of objects and the stories they tell. Using a variety of materials, Valérie Mannaerts creates hybrid, unruly and dubious forms that are, on the one hand, susceptible to coincidence but, on the other, clearly formally defined.
