THE HEIST CLAY PITS
The Heist Clay Pits
A complex of low-lying meadows sprinkled with old clay mining pits, now dominated by nature once again. 22 hectares of natural beauty in the midst of the Flemish coastal polders. The low-lying meadows with marshes and broad reed belts are the ideal habitat for birds and amphibians. This is therefore a true paradise for bird watchers, although you don’t need to be an expert to enjoy their beauty and splendour! Bats make the sky unsafe at dusk. The most notable amphibian species in the Heist Clay Pits is the green frog.
The area can be visited fully free of charge, with the only condition being that the natural values are respected
