About the artwork
These four colossal blocks from 1993 were hewn from Austrian granite rock, together weighing in at 48 tonnes. Monumental as they are, they find themselves in harmony with the surrounding nature. The German sculptor’s work has the same effect on the observer as columns within Egyptian art.
About the artist
Rückriem focuses on the essential characteristics of sculpture. His work mainly consists of stone blocks that are first split into pieces, then subsequently restored to their original shape. The visible holes and fracture lines are telltale traces of the work process. The proportions follow mathematical principles and are designed to harmonise with the surrounding location.
